Flower Of Life

So to start my postings, I want to share what the photo background of my blog title is; the Flower of Life. My friend who was visiting saw these papers hanging near the cealing in a cramped and pretty awesome East Asia import store. It was a cool pattern in black and white we decided, and that we should each buy one and have a neat-o painting sesh to make them fun and colorful. But there is something beautiful about it, seemingly so simple and repetative, this "flower" is believed to hold the golden ratio of phi, deep spiritual meaing, and fundamental aspects of space and time.



  It's references can be found in most religions and cultures, but most vital to sacred geometry.  This has been found in ancient temples in China, Israel, Japan, India, Turkey and in 13th century Italian and medieval art. The oldest was found in Egypt at the Temple of Osiris and is said to be over 6, 000 years old, dating back as far as 10 500 BC.  Four shapes that are found in the flower are refered to as "Egg of Life," "Seef of Life," "Tree of Life," and "Fruit of Life."

Leonardo Da Vinci studied the Flower of Life's form and it's mathematical properties. Many alchemists have studied the Metatron's Cube, a symbol derived from the "Fruit of Life" within the flower, containing a geometric basis of the five platonic solids, which are believed to be the basis of all things in the world;  nature, language, music, everything.  In sacred geometry, it is believed that if one studies the shapes and designs they will find spiritual enlightenment. It was also used as a meditation practice.  There is something all-encompassing about this flower, I feel it is simply lovely to look at, and would serve as a great meditation tool or even a piece of art.
